Video: OK Go ~ Needing/Getting (Stunt Music Video)

If you haven’t seen any of OK GO’s past music videos, you’re missing out on life. They make fun music in a fun way. I can’t even describe how awesome this is.

OK Go set up over 1000 instruments over two miles of desert outside Los Angeles. A Chevy Sonic was outfitted with retractable pneumatic arms designed to play the instruments, and the band recorded this version of Needing/Getting, singing as they played the instrument array with the car. The video took 4 months of preparation and 4 days of shooting and recording. There are no ringers or stand-ins; Damian took stunt driving lessons. Each piano had the lowest octaves tuned to the same note so that they’d play the right note no matter where they were struck.

The Strange Familiar: *Being Me*

The Strange Familiar, led by Kira Leyden and Jeff Andrea, have gained recognition for their wondrous songwriting. One of their hits, “Courage Is,”exemplifies the group’s talent for writing.

“Being Me” is the band’s new release for their full-length album, Chasing Shadows. The entire album boasts 12 tracks filled with lyrics of finding hope and hooks that please even those who are unFamiliar to the genre. The album is defined as a story of struggle and searching to find happinnes in the midst of false dreams.

The lead single, “Being Me,” is a groovy track and definitely filled with joy of one’s own self. It’s almost like she’s speaking to those of us who have failed to fill the gaps between us and those that bring darkness into our lives. Kira has a little Meaghan Smith going on with her voice which helps put pair the mood with the lyrics.

She hasn’t kissed Katy Perry, she hasn’t sung a duet with Gaga, and she probably will never be as cool as The Black Keys, but she’s definitely a talented singer.

Neon Golds is introducing a new signing to their record label, St. Lucia. They’re dropping his EP in March and a full-album later this year. First, they’ve introduced a few remixes to St. Lucia’s “We Got It Wrong.”

Is there such a thing as a beat masacre? Xaphoon’s crazy abilities to spin a record into something otherworldly is truly more than a talent. Whatever he uses to get juiced up for a remix, give a dose to other musicians and the world will be a better place.

New Artist: SEMI – “Hurt Me Baby”

From the money making borough of Manhattan, more specifically Harlem, comes Semi. Equipped with aggressive story-telling rhymes, that are laced with slick punch-lines and meaningful content, his flows parallel the identical category of vicious firearm. With his lyrics, he addresses topics that are prominent in his and most people’s lives. By listening to him once, anyone can feel the emotion, ambition and passion in his music. While he mostly performs hip-hop and R&B, Semi can also entertain an alternative or pop audience. Three words he describes his sound with are “Lyrical,

Video: Ground Up – “Boulevard”

It was almost exactly a year ago when I last heard from Ground Up. Their Girls Who Smoke Cigarettes mixtape had “Fast Enough” as the main track and I absolutely loved it. Forward a year to today and Ground Up has put up visuals for “Boulevard.” Ground Up is building his rep, well, from the ground up so I’m excited to hear more from him.

I can’t say that I ever saw this coming, well, actually Chiddy tweeted about it so I’m not that surprised. Just these three making a track is something I was really interested in. Chiddy the rapper, Aoki the electro musician, and Lil Jon the … he raps, too, I guess.

The track tries to pull off being one of those club bangers with a little house, but the best part is Chidera rapping. You can literally put him over any beat, and the shit will be dope.
