New Artist: SEMI – “Hurt Me Baby”

From the money making borough of Manhattan, more specifically Harlem, comes Semi. Equipped with aggressive story-telling rhymes, that are laced with slick punch-lines and meaningful content, his flows parallel the identical category of vicious firearm. With his lyrics, he addresses topics that are prominent in his and most people’s lives. By listening to him once, anyone can feel the emotion, ambition and passion in his music. While he mostly performs hip-hop and R&B, Semi can also entertain an alternative or pop audience. Three words he describes his sound with are “Lyrical,

New Artist: Cypher Clique — “The Show”

Cypher Clique is a three-member hip-hop group from the East. It’s hard for me to describe Cypher Clique without thinking their something unique. They’re a fusion between traditional hip-hop, 90s rap,  and something else that I can’t quite  figure out.

Their music is something out of a dream; something you can easily wake up to and start rapping along. I haven’t stopped listening to them all week. Maybe because the thought of actually labeling them is killing me, who knows? It doesn’t matter once you listen to the whole tape. You can’t figure them out and the tape starts to play again. And again. That’s how I got into them.

Regardless of any labels, Cypher Clique seem to be on their way to bigger and better things. I don’t think they’ve mastered anything, yet–and that’s what irks me the most. They’re a hip-hop group, yes; but they have a lot to master in the “unique” section. But, then again. that’s why I like them.

Enough going back and forth, check them out. They’re pretty dope.

I got word of this song a couple of days ago when Mostly Junk Food had posted this. It may be true that this very well may be the first time we’ve heard of Elle Varner. Though, that beat has a nice 90s feel to it but even more  so it sounds so similar to some early Britney Spears. I swear, I thought I was listening to some “Baby Hit Me One More Time”  …. one more time.

Regardless, with J. Cole providing a verse, this song is pretty dope. Check it

New Artist: Zach Moon- Fell In Love Peeing

Has anyone ever fell in love while peeing? It sounds farfetched but anything is possible when falling in love. I once fell in love at Disneyland during the Grad-Nite trip. I had just left my friends to meet her at Splash Mountain when we wound up walking around instead. We had been dating for a couple of months when I decided to throw the,”L” word right next to a churro stand. We went our separate ways a year later, but it’s ok; I still remember the first time I fell in love.

New Artist: Natalie Angiuli — Sometimes. Always. Never

I get a lot of e-mails from musicians wanting me to post their music on the site. I usually try to find something unique about their music, but a lot of times I get bootleg Drake verses or bands that need to master their tracks. This post isn’t about them, though.

The other day I received an email from a Natalie Angiuli. She caught my attention so I took the time to read and listen. She didn’t disappoint.

What first stuck to my head was her songwriting. Then her vocals. Then that

Kowalski – ‘The Great Outdoors’

Everybody’s Stalking posted this gem up a few days ago but I am just now receiving it due to Two Door Cinema Club having posted it on their Facebook page. Kowalski is a band from Northern Ireland with an indie pop sound similar to that of  The Postal Service and Phoenix — per ES.  The ‘Outdoors’ single is being released on Everybody’s Stalking on August 22nd.

Interesting note: Apparently, Paddy Baird, the drummer from Kowalski, is a brother of Kevin Baird from Two Door Cinema Club. Sweet.

With an array of musical instruments, I’ve had this on repeat all weekend long. Why? I really don’t know. There’s something about Gabby Young that just attracts me. Is it her looks, her voice, or all the crazy colors from “Ask You A Question” hitting my face? Whatever it is, I love the overall creativity in Ms. Young. They have a circus/medieval times look, but that’s no pun, she and her band look absolutely badass performing the wild and daring tracks.

We’re All in This Together is Gabby Young & Other Animals’ US debut and “Ask You A Question” is their lead single. Interesting story about Gabby Young: She was the youngest recruit ever to the National Youth Opera and well on her way to becoming an Opera Star. At the time, she had recognized the potential in her voice, so she started crafting it. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. The time she spent in care enabled her to write We’re All In This Together and have it to be what it is now.

If that doesn’t earn her respect by the story alone, give her whole album a listen. Trust me, her voice is awesome.

The Kickdrums are quickly becoming one of my favorite groups and their latest masterpiece “The Ghost Mixtape” is no disappointment. A little treat before their album Meet Your Ghosts comes out, The Kickdrums’ mesh of hip-hop over drums and a rock-the-fuck-out tune make for a great mix. I just wish I could have seen them at Coachella. Damnnit.

Check out my favorite track of the mixtape and be sure to download the whole tape.
