LA Natives and surf pop-rock band Best Coast have given us a new treat. They’re this week’s featured artist on Adult Swim Singles Program. With that honor, they have a released a new track that that’s a bit more mellow than the usual quick, and upbeat type tracks from the band.

They will be playing at the annual Make Music Pasadena festival this Saturday. It’s one of the largest free festivals so check them out. I’ll be there.

Oh, and that’s the cat Beth talks about all the time.

Best Coast – Gone Again

With an array of musical instruments, I’ve had this on repeat all weekend long. Why? I really don’t know. There’s something about Gabby Young that just attracts me. Is it her looks, her voice, or all the crazy colors from “Ask You A Question” hitting my face? Whatever it is, I love the overall creativity in Ms. Young. They have a circus/medieval times look, but that’s no pun, she and her band look absolutely badass performing the wild and daring tracks.

We’re All in This Together is Gabby Young & Other Animals’ US debut and “Ask You A Question” is their lead single. Interesting story about Gabby Young: She was the youngest recruit ever to the National Youth Opera and well on her way to becoming an Opera Star. At the time, she had recognized the potential in her voice, so she started crafting it. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. The time she spent in care enabled her to write We’re All In This Together and have it to be what it is now.

If that doesn’t earn her respect by the story alone, give her whole album a listen. Trust me, her voice is awesome.

A little flair from Beyonce and the traditional rap from Outkast’s Andre 3000 makes “Party” a hit. Beyonce loyalists won’t be disappointed with this charming, funky track. “Party” was produced by Kanye West and Consequence and features a sample of Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh’s flamboyant early hip hop classic “La Di Da Di.””Party” is a track of her forthcoming album, 4. Check it out:

“You a bad girl and your friend’s bad too/ You got the swag sauce, you drippin’ swagu.”

The Kickdrums are quickly becoming one of my favorite groups and their latest masterpiece “The Ghost Mixtape” is no disappointment. A little treat before their album Meet Your Ghosts comes out, The Kickdrums’ mesh of hip-hop over drums and a rock-the-fuck-out tune make for a great mix. I just wish I could have seen them at Coachella. Damnnit.

Check out my favorite track of the mixtape and be sure to download the whole tape.

The hip-hop/electronica GA-based group is out with their new mixtape “$Free.99.” I’ll be honest, I didn’t know much about this group until Hoodie Allen tweeted that he’s a featured on one of the tracks. With that in mind,  I don’t have much to say about this group other than I’m digging their music.

So that I wouldn’t spam you guys, I tried to fit in both the mixtape and the track that Hoodie Allen posted on one page.

Check out “Dammit” and Like them on Facebook to download their entire mixtape for free:

New MP3: J. Cole – “How High”

It’s been a while since we’ve heard some new heat from J. Cole. “How High” is an unreleased track that has found its way onto an unofficial mixtape. Whether this makes it onto his next album is yet to be known, but who cares — good music now is better than good music later.

Enjoy the holiday weekend, everyone. I am … getting drunk and shit.

Skrillex Presents: Free Treats – Vol 001

A couple of days ago I posted some electro/house music on the site — it was the first time having that genre up. Now, we’ll add dubstep to the site in honor of a mini-compilation by none other than rising star DJ Skrillex. I saw Skrillex live at Coachella and was amazed by the legions of fans that show up to support. It was one of the most-filled tents I saw during that entire weekend. A couple of days ago Skrillex along with buddies Zedd and 12th Planet, gave away 3 new tracks for free.

I’m not exactly sure
