The Adventure In Music

I would like to first like to introduce myself as a new writer for Dear Song in my Head. My name is Eric and I look forward to posting reviews about the music I love. Last night I was wondering, “what was it that started my hunger for music?” Was it the concerts, the cd’s, or the music videos? Truth is, ALL OF THE ABOVE. It took a bit of everything to get me at being the music aficionado I am today. Once I heard an artist’s CD, I had to watch the music videos which lead to going to the concerts. The one defining moment for me

City and Colour + Mansions = Addiction

For the past 3 weeks or so I’ve been indulging in some great music. My ears have been pleasantly satisfied. I decided to stop being selfish and share with you all what I am now addicted to. Yes, I’m addicted. This is all thanks to my music guru. I’m too lazy and tired to make this all fancy and shit for you all.

Welcome to my dome of addiction.

The Girl

I’m a sucker for covers. I’m also a sucker for cute UK chicks. With that in mind, there’s no surprise that I absolutely love Ellie Goulding and her cover of The Knife’s “Heartbeats” from 2003′s Deep Cuts, which was also covered in acoustics by Jose Gonzales. You guys might remember her from BBC Radio when she covered and completely turned Rihanna’s “Only Girl” into one of the best covers I’ve heard in some time. Check it out:

Video! Andrew Bird – Tenuousness

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sivcS6uvIg]

Andrew Bird has to be one of my favorite folk artists of all time. There’s just something about the way his songs come together to form something that you don’t see anymore in the music industry. An acclaimed violinist, guitarist and (my favorite of all) whistler, Andrew Bird has been in the music industry for more than decade, starting with his band,Andrew Bird’s Bowl of Fire. Mixing the serene sounds of violin with gritty guitar rhythms and the occasional yet, catchy whistled tune, Andrew Bird is nothing short of excellence.

I think the greatest aspect that Bird has mastered is his

Video! Eliza Doolittle- Mr. Medicine

Eliza Doolittle’s music video for Mr. Medicine has been out for a few weeks now but VEVO had blocked it in the US until now. Mr. Medicine is a track off Eliza’s self-titled debut album, Eliza Doolittle. She brings out Gingerbread, Yo! Gabba Gabba, Mario Mario, Pikachu, and even a few creatures from Where The Wild Things are. Ha. No, really, check it out.

Also, be sure to check out her visuals for “Skinny Genes” after the jump.

Sorry for the recent lack of posts, but I have come back rested and at full throttle. Tonight I bring you this fresh, new artist: Star Slinger. Darren Williams a.k.a Star Slinger is another up and coming artist in the hip hop music scene. From the English county of Nottinghamshire, Williams is a new instrumental hip hop artist who also does many great remixes. Check out his new album entitled “Volume 1” featuring the track “Mornin'” that is available for download below.

2011 XXL Freshmen

XXL‘s 2011 Fresman Class is out. Here’s the list: Lil B, Big K.R.I.T, CyHi Da Prynce, Diggy Simmons, Fred The Godson, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Twist, Mac Miller, Meek Mill, Yelawolf, and YG.

I’m pretty damn mad that XV has yet to make XXL’s top freshmen class. Any long-time XV fan knows XV’s beef with XXL, but, the more I think about it, it’s good for him. Listening to Vizzy’s lyrics, it’s clear he has taken the underdog-unappreciated role and created a mindset to just “make hits instead of lists.”

XXL didn’t expect XV to excel, so before
