Watch Tupac’s Coachella ‘Performance:’ Hail Mary & 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted
I made it known that I would only want to go to Coachella this year because Snoop Dogg and Dre. Dre are the closest I’d ever come to seeing my generation’s Tupac and Biggie.
But this? Seeing the actual …err, a CGI-ed Tupac on stage? That just blows my mind.
Tupac appeared on staged and performed “Hail Mary” and “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted” with Snoop.
I’ve been hearing from the younger crowd that this may be the greatest thing ever, but others believe this is ethically wrong by having a deceased person perform and saying, “What’s up, Coachella?” You can argue for both sides but for now, I’ll take a hologram Tupac over no Tupac.

Check out how they did it, from The Verge:
The performance reportedly used the same technology that enabled Mariah Carey to perform a concert in five cities simultaneously. Executing the Carey illusion relied on both modern day techniques and an old magician’s trick dating back to the 19th Century. First, a video was composed by New York SFX company MPC using a mixture of live footage, wire-framing, and CGI. This was then fed into Musion’s holographic technology, which projects the image onto a special foil. The foil is based on principles set out in the old magician’s illusion Pepper’s Ghost, which trick audiences into thinking they’re viewing a person or object rather than a simple reflection. By using a lightweight foil which mimics the properties of semi-transparent glass, Musion is able to extend the concept’s scale without limiting the efficacy of the illusion.
What do you guys think? Was it wrong?
