Countdown to Coachella: The Radio Department
Coachella is around the corner! I’m sure you all are looking forward to it as I am. Remember to check out The Radio Department while you’re there. Their album ‘Clinging to a Scheme’ is definitely worth checking out for those fans of electro noise pop. With their synth hooks and indie beats, they have gotten a lot of success in the UK. Last year, they reached number 20 on Billboard 200 for albums of the year. Which makes me wonder, “Why didn’t I hear of them sooner?”
My favorite song off the Clinging to a Scheme album has to be ‘ Heaven’s on Fire.’ This song reminds me of all the girls I’ve had a crush on. The nervousness feeling I had is best described by
the lyrics,”Fighting to keep it together, but it’s pointless. One look at you and heaven’s on fire.” I was so shy back then. I’m still shy at times but not as bad.
A Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) sample is also used in the song. It’s very reminiscent to intros used by From Monument to Masses. The sample adds some build up to the song which definitely helped it out.
The Radio Department will be playing day 2 at Coachella. Be sure to check them out.
