AusScene: Fun Machine – Naked Body
I swear my body can sense oncoming fun and thus lowers my immunity. So in typical form, I was attacked by a cold, leaving me bedridden and physically asleep whilst a Pop Art themed party I was meant to be at occurred. Gosh darn it. The worst part of this whole situation was I missed out on seeing the delightful Fun Machine perform, so instead, here I shall talk about their new single. I’m sorry guys. I was even going to commit myself to red lipstick. That doesn’t happen often.
Fun Machine are one of the rare delights to rise out of the political correctness and just straight politics of Canberra – capital city of Australia. Self labelled sex pop, these guys will get you high on the bizarre. They sing songs about toxic shock syndrome and wear gold hot pants when performing live. Their new music video, Naked Body, off their soon-to-be-released album, follows this style of irresistible quirkiness.
Naked Body kicks off with crunchy, grungey guitar you just want to chew on, spinning through abstract shots of anatomical bits and bobs. Not THOSE bits and bobs… just feet and bellybuttons and so on. Vocals are loud and intended for shouting, and the chorus leaves one with a definite urge to thrash, the clip flipping between black and white stop motion and a colourful amalgamation of live shots. And of course, in true Fun Machine fashion, there is glitter. It’s punky, it’s energetic, and it is very very fun. It does what it says on the can.
Watch this video to see what I am talking about. You will be singing this in the shower for weeks.
