Album Review: Nantes’ ‘BeingsBeing’
Before you start reading our review, go below and start playing Nantes’ “Avid.” Let the music sink in.
Nantes, a five-piece band from Sydney, have an uncanny way of becoming to a soundtrack-like tune in whatever 3-minute track you choose. Lead singer David Rogers is the defining voice of Nantes; with vocals that becoming a driving force of the synth-and-drum duo behind it.
“Avid,” the lead single of BeingsBeing, couldn’t be any more of an eargasm. With past hits such as “Fly” and “Charlie” from their self-titled debut EP, they’ve cultivated their sound to a much more rich and of hipnotic sounds. Having had a ton of success from their EP, you’d expect Nantes to hit each bass-and-drum wave a bit hard – sure enough, “Drones” and “Unsatistfy” leave you, well, more than satisfied.

“Drones,” along with “Unsatisfy,” set the bar high. Yet, that bar is reached after the next track. I left myself thinking “Lost Children,” the track after “Drones,” should instead be the defining song of the album. Though we’re still getting acquainted to each tune, we think Nantes matches Rogers’ fantastic voice with their hypnotic-like bass well throughout the album.
