The 1975
Something hit me immediately about The 1975, and that was Sex. I’m talking about their latest single, Sex as well as the vocal beauty that is Matthew Healy. There’s something about this band that keeps you coming back for more, trust me when I say they aren’t just a one-night stand.
To put it simply, their blend of alternative rock and electro just works, and from what I’ve heard they’re an energetic band to see live. It seems that since the sudden turn in weather (who else is wearing 4 layers of clothing just to go out and get milk?) winter might actually have arrived early, thankfully this album is keeping me optimistic!
The synth-pop mixed with heavy (and skilled) drumming gives the album a sentimental feel. It’s a nostalgic exploration into our memories of being 17 again, with an upbeat soundtrack to boot. Their single Chocolate has already seen itself on the top 20 and was a regular on road trip playlists this summer.
Artful (a UK garage LEGEND) has remixed Pressure (listen below), the penultimate song on the album; clearly they’re catching the ears of some of the greats and you’ll be on the bandwagon before you know it.
1975 was released on September 2nd and they have already sold out plenty of their UK and US tour dates. Californian band The Neighbourhood are supporting The 1975 on the tour and after seeing them doing such a great job supporting Paul Banks earlier this year at KOKO, I can tell going to one of the upcoming gigs will be electrifying. This is a band with a promising future and I can’t wait to see what they can accomplish, if anything this summer is to go by, we’re looking at an exciting start to a long music career!
