Music: It Will Never Break Your Heart (My Tune World)
It’s been a solid week since I’ve posted but I am now starting to balance my job, internship, friends, and now DSIMH. There’s this feeling when you’ve been away from music for so long–in blog terms, of course–that is almost like you’re not ready to dive full-steam into new music. You’re just supposed to take it slowly. New artists or new tracks from old artists, new music is new music any way you look at it. Though, just I had started to want to blog about music again, I kept thinking about music itself as a whole and where it has taken me.
I’ve been fortunate enough to find some really good music to make my transition into daily blogging a bit smoother. I happen to skip the likes of Drake and Lil’ Wayne every time they come out with something new. I take my music the way I have started to recently live my life: with meaning.
I like to think there’s never a set genre in music. If you stop to think about it, there really isn’t. There’s rap where everyone has swag, electro/house/trance to keep you on and shuffling, indie acts where there is careful placement of artistry. Not everyone only listens to rap or R&B. And not everyone likes two of the same artists. Once you actually take the time to look at it, you realize there are hundreds of thousands of bands out there. Each one with a different direction and message. What they choose to convey in a message and what we choose to listen to will always be that: a choice.
Never mind that we group with opinion leaders and coincidences of our listening habits and rituals, our favorite artists, and our most memorable musical experience, the joy of music is in each and every one of our hands. “This band sucks” and “that band is trashy.” So what? There are probably hundreds of others who actually do like that trashy song a certain band plays. You may and should already know that. That’s why when I talk about Drake and many mainstream rappers, I put out my opinion–good or bad–and that entitles me to criticism from those who do enjoy their music. And I’m not saying I hate any certain type of music or specific artist, there are just some things I choose not to listen to.
As I write this, I have many songs that I can name to explain this post in full. I have many artists who I believe may represent the vision in music I see. Also, if it’s not enough, I envision another music aficionado thinking the same thing. There’s the world we live in, and then there’s our world filled with music. Whether it makes us dance, sing, or reminisce, music will never fail us–unless it just sucks of course.
After a week-long absence of music, new and old, I wanted to capture exactly what I’ve gone through in a perfect post. This isn’t perfect. At all. And I know. But, realize that most of the time I live in a world of many different tune rides, so I’m always trying to catch up to the train for a seat saved just for me.
I like to think I have a deep connection to the music I listen to. I just hope I never lose that.
