Album Review: Touche Amore’s Is Survived By
Touche Amore, a post-hardcore band from the Los Angeles area has just released their third full length album Is Survived By in September of 2013. If you have not yet heard this band’s music, but are into any variations of post-hardcore/punk/screamo you might want to go ahead and attend one of Touche Amore’s shows or pick up one of the albums. For references, think of any bands like La Dispute, Pianos Become Teeth, Converge or Defeater.
Since their first release …To The Beat of a Dead Horse to Parting the Sea Between Brightness and Me and now Is Survived By, Touche Amore has set a a high bar for upcoming artists coming out of Southern California. Beginning with the song Just Exist, the lyrics tell the listener, although very cliche, to live in the moment when existing alone without trying to leave a mark is already enough to do.
The song to write content really speaks to anybody who has taken a part in the music writing process, especially in the hardcore/punk community that this band reaches to, when Jeremy speaks of a guy named Andy who found it difficult to write when you’re content. Expression of anger, depression, anxiety, etc. have become some of the biggest factors for this band and it is very clear to the listener that Touche Amore has such a huge fan base because these unhappy lyrics (although it is not all they write about) really reaches out to them. To Write Content is a personal favorite from the album because of the message and instrumental structure of the song.
The whole album, per usual, will leave you at the edge of your seat and wanting to attend the next Touche Amore show in your area. None of the albums have disappointed and the Touche Amore fan base will definitely keep growing as the band keeps writing. If you can, help the band by buying an album online or picking up some of their merch so that they can keep touring and providing a safe place for people to let out their frustrations. If not, you can listen to the full album below:
