I never know what to write in these articles… How can you describe a band who blows you away?

I’m nearly always stunned by every band I see; there is so much talent in Los Angeles. But Down & Outlaws kicked ass. They came to the stage and laid out all of their emotions, energy, talent, thrill; left it all out on the stage for us to watch.

The guys were also great and fun to talk to. They were relaxed, laid back. They hung out with their friends and fans, watched the other bands, shared drinks and enjoyed conversations with fans. I highly recommend checking them out and reading the interview I had with them below.

BOSTON: Hey guys! Just to start off, I wanted to see if you could give me a quick overview of how you met, how you formed as a band, and what people should expect from you.
PETER: Chris and I are brothers, and we played in a band before this. Then, Kyle and John played in a band before this as well, together. And we met Kyle because we rented out their practice space for a little while.
KYLE: That’s pretty much it. What you can expect from us is loud, in your face, rock ‘n roll. Pretty much.
BOSTON: Cool, cool. I was just going to ask, when I was looking up your website, I noticed that two of you have the same last name. So two of you are brothers?
CHRIS: Yeah, yeah. Peter and I are.
BOSTON: How long have you guys been playing music together? Has that been since you were little?
PETER: Not at all, actually.
CHRIS: Not together.
PETER: Yeah, I’ve played bass not seriously necessarily, but since I was young. But we didn’t start playing together until I was out of college, really. CHRIS: Peter is two years younger, so early twenty’s is when we started playing.
PETER: I think that’s just when we started wanting to hang out with each other.
JOHN: I’ve been playing drums since second grade, so I’ve been playing music for a long time.
KYLE: I’ve been playing guitar for fourteen years, and seven of them with John.

BOSTON: Alright, awesome! So your debut album, your LP, is coming out soon, right? When can we expect that?
PETER: In the fall at some point. We don’t know an exact date yet, but it will be this fall.
BOSTON: How excited are you guys about that? I saw that you had an EP already out.
KYLE: Excited to have a little more current idea of what we are- we want people to know what we are doing now. You come to the shows, we’re playing our songs but there’s no –you can’t take it home with you, you can’t take it on your run with you. We want you to have that capability.
CHRIS: we’re really proud of the recordings. Happy with what we got.

BOSTON: What should we expect from you this next year? I know that you’re from the bay area, so you’re probably touring a lot out here. Are you guys planning to go across country, what’s your plan?
PETER: When we put out the record, that’s our hope. We just did South by SouthWest, and toured town there. But when we put out the record, we hope to make it across country.
JOHN: We have had requests to go to Boston a lot, actually. {Laughter because of name pun} And people in New York. There is a want and a need to go everywhere we can.

BOSTON: Well that’s all I had for you guys unless you had something that you would like to add?
PETER: We just had a single come out last month. And that’s from what’s going to be out on the record. And we’ll have a new one coming out next month.
KYLE: A single and a video out. Already we are going to have another single and another video out. Soon. Like next month. Hopefully in June.
