XV – SmallVille (Prod. J.Cole)

Produced by J. Cole, XV decided to share this song in honor of J. Cole’s birthday. XV said there are two more tracks soon to be released that either features J. Cole on the track or produced by him. Happy birthday, J. Cole!

Teachers thought I’d never come out of my shell,

and well, now I hop on beats and go pistachios.

Countdown to Coachella: YELLE

Only 79 days until the dancing shoes come on for YELLE. They were a part of Coachella in 2008 and are coming back for this years event. The very first time I stumbled upon this French band was on Youtube a couple years ago. I was searching for French artists to use for a presentation in my French class at the time. I’m pretty stoked to see a french act and actually understand a good amount of what they’re saying. I’m curious as to what creativity will bloom for their

Countdown to Coachella: Cage The Elephant

When I decided to do this whole Countdown to Coachella thing, I didn’t know which bands I would be posting first. I wanted to post music that you guys may not know, since most of the people I know are into the Drakes and Kanye Wests of the music world, but also music that I absolutely love. Therefore, today’s Coachella post is all about Cage The Elephant. Ever since I first heard “Back Against The Wall,” I’ve been a huge fan and I’ve had “Tiny Little Robots” as the Song in my Head (Ha! I finally used our name on a post).

Cage the Elephant is a modern rock band without any of that grunginess most bands try to incorporate into their music. As it stands for most rock bands, your music either originates from the UK or your growing popularity started there and Cage The Elephant has a big fan base overseas. Their newest album; Thank You, Happy Birthday; was released on January 11 and they promised to “launch the new year with a ferocious kick of (gut)nut-grabbing rock & roll.”

Check out a few of my favorite tracks below and their latest single, “Shake Me Down.”

Countdown to Coachella: Phantogram

Despite the incredible lineup, I will not be attending this year’s Coachella. One glance at the list and I already know what I will be missing out on. But for those who will be attending I bring to you today’s artist: none other than the brilliant and unfamiliar Phantogram!

Sure to turn their share of heads this year at Coachella, Phantogram is the up-and-coming dynamic duo from the state of New York. Mixing  moody electronic rhythms, ethereal lyrics and fleeting synthesizers with beats commonly used in hip-hop, this band brings their own unique, psychedelic (and almost binaural if you listen long enough) flavor to the table.

With their debut album, Eyelid Movies, out only a year ago, this Saratoga Springs based band is already making a name for themselves.  Featuring great tracks such as the “Mouthful of Diamonds” and “When I’m Small” (which was recently featured in the US’s adaptation of the British teen drama hit Skins), Eyelid Movies, is definitely one of my favorite albums of last year. So turn off your lights, grab your headphones and lay on the floor, you are about to experience the psychotropic sound that is Phantogram.

Countdown to Coachella: BEST COAST!

For years I’ve been wanting to go to Coachella but this year it’s really happening! When I saw the lineup, I was very pleased to see many of my favorite artists on there. I can’t wait to have a blast listening to great bands/artists. It must be a bit antsy for those of you that are going this April. Hopefully, these countdown posts can help you bare the waiting and get you even more pumped for the upcoming legendary weekend!

If you haven’t heard of Best Coast, brace yourself because you are soon to crush on them. Bethany Consentino (song writer/front woman) will put you in spell of glorious solitude with the help of Bobb Bruno and Ali Koehler. Bethany and Bobb had two previous drummers before Ali came into the picture but I think she compliments them just well. The group has had four EPs since 2009. Those lovely EPs are Make You Mine (2009), Where The Boys Are (2009), Something In The Way (2010), and Summer is Forever (2011). They do have one full-length album (Crazy for You) that was released in July of 2010. If you are one of the many that will experience a life-changing weekend at Coachella be sure to check out Best Coast.

If I haven’t made it obvious enough, Best Coast is one my all-time favorites. It wasn’t too difficult to decide which songs to post because there is no way you can go wrong with any of their songs. I leave you with four of their many presents to our ears. Crush Away!

Best Coast – Boyfriend

Best Coast – The End

Only 84 days remaining until Coachella and today we have music from Two Door Cinema Club. Two Door Cinema Club consists of four Irish mates (ha, mates) with an electro rock/pop tune. TDCC is easily one of my most favorite bands to listen to. I only have five bands/artists that have their own playlist on my iPod: Tupac, XV, Jack Johnson, Wale, and Two Door Cinema Club; that’s it.

Two Door Cinema Club released their debut album, Tourist History, in April of last year and have been touring the globe non-stop. I was fortunate enough to attend one of their US shows in Los Angeles and it was one of the best nights ever. Along with their debut album, they recorded an EP and altogether, they have only 16 songs. The band is also featured on a few Kitsune Maison (their record label) mixes. I first heard of the band through the Kitsune Maison 7 Minimix. I would post every TDCC song but I’ll leave you guys with my four favorite tracks: “What You Know,” “I Can Talk,” and click for the next page to check out my two non-stop repeat songs; “Undercover Martyn,” and “This Is The Life.”

There isn’t a bigger music event in California than the Coachella Music and Arts Festival. This year’s Coachella event draws big interest from music lovers as it packs some of the biggest names in music headlining the show: Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, and Kanye West. Other bands and artists set to perform include Interpol, Mumford & Sons, The National, and Eliza Doolittle (I just had to) among others.

You might not know every band or artist playing, so everyday until Coachella (April 15-17), we will be bringing music from one band/artist who will be performing at Coachella. There are 85 days left until Coachella and at least one bad/artist will be covered each day.
